On the 19th of February 2011 the first game of the 10th 2011 ICC World Cup will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It will be hosted by three nations Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. Fourteen countries will compete in the World Cup and the first match will be played between India and Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. The opening ceremony will be held on 17th February 2011 and the final being played on the 2nd of April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Qualification and Format
The Test-playing countries get automatic qualification for the World Cup. The other teams have to qualify by taking part in a series of qualifying tournaments. through a series of preliminary qualifying tournaments. 14 teams are divided into 2 groups of 7. The first round will be a round robin where each team plays every other team in their group once. At the end of the first round the top 4 teams from each group will qualify fir the quarter finals. The format ensures that each team gets to play a minimum of 6 matches even if they are ruled out of the tournament due to early defeats. The top four teams from each group will proceed to the knock out stage playing quarter-finals. Winners of the quarter-finals will play semi-finals and the winning semi-finalists will play in the final.

Mascot

Stumpy is the official mascot for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He was unveiled at a function in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Friday, 2 April 2010. He is a ten year old elephant who is enthusiastic and determined. Cricket-followers based all over the world were able to take part in a contest to name the mascot. The official name of the mascot was released on Monday, 2 August 2010 after an online competition which drew in thousands of proposals conducted by the ICC. It was unveiled by players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kumar Sangakara with 200 days to go for the world cup.

The world Cup is the 3rd largest in the world behind only th FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. It is televised in over 200 countries to over 2.2 billion television viewers. Television rights were sold to ESPN and Start Cricket for 2 billion dollars and sponsorship rights were sold for a firther US$500 million dollars. The 2007 World Cup sold more than 672,000 tickets and generated the highest ticketing revenue for any Cricket World Cup.
The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy is presented to the winners of the World Cup finals. The current trophy was created for the 1999 championships, and was the first permanent prize in the tournament's history; prior to this, different trophies were made for each World Cup. It is made from silver and gold, and includes 3 columns which is shaped like stumps and bails. It stands 60 cm high and weighs approximately 11 kilograms. The names of the previous winners are engraved on the base of the trophy, with space for a total of twenty inscriptions. The original trophy is kept by the ICC. A replica, which differs only in the inscriptions, is permanently awarded to the winning team.
Official Song of the World Cup
The name of the World cup song is titles 'De Ghuma Ke' composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and written by Manoj Yadav. 'De Ghuma Ke' is a term used in regular cricket and is an upbeat and fun song. It will be dubbed in two other Languages, Bengali and Singhalese. The song will be performed in the opening ceremony in Bangladesh
