Both of the closest margins of victory occurred in matches featuring Australia and India. However, there have also been three tied matches in World Cup history.

The first was in the 1999 Cricket World Cup semi-final, in which a run out in the final over with only one run required prevented South Africa advancing to the final instead of Australia, who progressed on head-to-head record against South Africa. This was one of the most famous and memorable games in World Cup history.
